New Salem: The Constable is an expansion for New Salem released in 2019 for 3–8 players, 30–60 minutes per game, and ages 14 and up. It was designed by Brian Henk and Clayton Skancke and its main mechanics are Set Collection, Cooperative Game, and Open Drafting.
Due to the rising tide of witchcraft that is threatening to overtake the burgeoning town of New Salem, the founders have elected a Constable to help mediate the situation. Because it is feared witches may have infiltrated the founding group, the Constable will rotate among them to avoid any witch getting too much power. The Constable will be in charge of triggering the plentiful array of new events that have become available, such as Seance, Conspiracy, and Drowning. There will be a random assortment of 7 events in each game to create a different witch hunt each time. The Gloom and Law buildings have been replaced with new sets that add or remove Despair with each building, but have an end game effect of adding or removing a lot more if you collect the set of 3. This expansion is included in the New Salem 2nd Edition and an upgrade kit was made for the 1st Edition. It includes a new event deck of over 20 events, 48 new building cards, a constable standee, and 8 constable badges.
New Salem: The Constable supports 3–8 players according to the catalogue. This range comes from the publisher’s listed player count, so the game can be set up for any group size within it. Some setups, rules and scoring details may still vary by player count, so check your edition’s rulebook for the exact configuration.
The listed playing time for New Salem: The Constable is 30–60 minutes. This is the publisher’s estimate for a full game. The actual duration depends on the group, the player count and familiarity with the rules: first sessions usually run longer, while experienced groups often finish faster. Setup and teaching time are not included in this estimate.
The catalogue lists New Salem: The Constable for ages 14 and up. This is the publisher’s recommendation and reflects reading demands, rule complexity and small components rather than theme alone. Younger players can often join with help from an adult, so check the age guidance on your edition and consider your group’s experience with board games.
New Salem: The Constable belongs to these categories: Card Game, Party Game, and Deduction. Its main mechanics are Set Collection, Cooperative Game, and Open Drafting. Categories describe the theme and setting of a game, while mechanics describe what players actually do on their turns. Each mechanic links to a catalogue hub with similar games, which helps when you want something comparable.

The catalogue lists New Salem: The Constable as an expansion for New Salem. Expansions add new content, rules or scenarios to the base game and usually cannot be played on their own, so you need New Salem to use it.
