Primordial Secrets is a board game released in 2023 for 2–4 players, 30–90 minutes per game, and ages 13 and up. It was designed by Garth Avery and its main mechanics are Simultaneous Action Selection, Secret Unit Deployment, and Open Drafting.
Before the birth of time itself, great abyssals patrolled the darkness, guarding the secrets of the unborn cosmos. Infernals held court in their fantastic ballrooms, connoisseurs of decadence and indulgence. And most unfathomable of all, the celestials shaped, guided, created and molded. In Primordial Secrets, players must send their obedient pawns to entreat these all-powerful titans for their aid and guidance, all while playing a strange and dangerous game of flamboyant intrigue. If a player's visitors have enough devotion, they will return with strong new allies, and with enough insight they could even uncover a dark secret guarded by a rival. Meanwhile, your deceitful hosts will try to lure the emissaries and party guests sent by your opponents to your sacrificial altar. The game ends when a player has collected six sacrifices or stolen six secrets, and the unborn universe shall be theirs alone to rule. —description from the publisher
Primordial Secrets supports 2–4 players according to the catalogue. This range comes from the publisher’s listed player count, so the game can be set up for any group size within it. Some setups, rules and scoring details may still vary by player count, so check your edition’s rulebook for the exact configuration.
The listed playing time for Primordial Secrets is 30–90 minutes. This is the publisher’s estimate for a full game. The actual duration depends on the group, the player count and familiarity with the rules: first sessions usually run longer, while experienced groups often finish faster. Setup and teaching time are not included in this estimate.
The catalogue lists Primordial Secrets for ages 13 and up. This is the publisher’s recommendation and reflects reading demands, rule complexity and small components rather than theme alone. Younger players can often join with help from an adult, so check the age guidance on your edition and consider your group’s experience with board games.
Primordial Secrets has a complexity rating of 2.7 out of 5 from BoardGameGeek players, which makes it a medium-light game. The rating reflects how much rules knowledge, planning and decision-making a typical game demands. Expect a longer first teach for heavier games, and use a preparation guide before game night.
