Ticket to Ride Map Collection 3: The Heart of Africa is an expansion for Ticket to Ride released in 2012 for 2–5 players, 30–60 minutes per game, and ages 8 and up. It was designed by Alan R. Moon and its main mechanics are Hand Management, Set Collection, and Network and Route Building.
Game description from the publisher: Set in the vast wilderness of Africa at the height of its exploration by intrepid explorers, missionaries and adventurers, Ticket to Ride Map Collection 3: The Heart of Africa, a single-sided expansion map for Ticket to Ride or Ticket to Ride: Europe, focuses on the central and southern "heart" of the continent displayed in a vertical format. This expansion introduces 45 new terrain cards, divided into three different terrain types. Each type is associated with different route colors: Desert/Savanna cards for yellow, orange and red routes; Jungle/Forest cards for green, blue and purple routes; and Mountain/Cliff cards for black, white and grey routes. Players can draw terrain cards just like train cards and they may use these to double the value of the routes they claim, under certain conditions. Part of Ticket to Ride series.
Ticket to Ride Map Collection 3: The Heart of Africa supports 2–5 players according to the catalogue. This range comes from the publisher’s listed player count, so the game can be set up for any group size within it. Some setups, rules and scoring details may still vary by player count, so check your edition’s rulebook for the exact configuration.
The listed playing time for Ticket to Ride Map Collection 3: The Heart of Africa is 30–60 minutes. This is the publisher’s estimate for a full game. The actual duration depends on the group, the player count and familiarity with the rules: first sessions usually run longer, while experienced groups often finish faster. Setup and teaching time are not included in this estimate.
The catalogue lists Ticket to Ride Map Collection 3: The Heart of Africa for ages 8 and up. This is the publisher’s recommendation and reflects reading demands, rule complexity and small components rather than theme alone.
