Villages: Distant Lands is an expansion for Villages released in 2012 for 2–5 players, 30 minutes per game, and ages 12 and up. It was designed by Jaron Frost and its main mechanics are Variable Player Powers, Hand Management, and Set Collection.
From publisher blurb: It's time to explore! You've conquered the known world. Now it's time to explore! Send 9 all-new units into the great unknown in order to claim even more land for your kingdom. Use the sneaky Scout to take a peek at your opponent's cards, protect your Kings and Princesses with the handsome Prince, and stage a revolution with the unassuming Peasant. This expansion also introduces the Distant Lands locations deck. As you begin each round, draw one of these cards to discover a new place for you and your rivals to fight over. Each new land has its own special properties that change the rules of the game. For example, Rogue's Retreat lets hired units escape to the discard pile, while the Peasants at Revolt Volcano begin their uprising before you even start to play. Each deck of Villages: Distant Lands includes 48 standard cards, 12 location cards, and a sheet of rules.
Villages: Distant Lands supports 2–5 players according to the catalogue. This range comes from the publisher’s listed player count, so the game can be set up for any group size within it. Some setups, rules and scoring details may still vary by player count, so check your edition’s rulebook for the exact configuration.
The listed playing time for Villages: Distant Lands is 30 minutes. This is the publisher’s estimate for a full game. The actual duration depends on the group, the player count and familiarity with the rules: first sessions usually run longer, while experienced groups often finish faster. Setup and teaching time are not included in this estimate.
The catalogue lists Villages: Distant Lands for ages 12 and up. This is the publisher’s recommendation and reflects reading demands, rule complexity and small components rather than theme alone. Younger players can often join with help from an adult, so check the age guidance on your edition and consider your group’s experience with board games.
Villages: Distant Lands belongs to these categories: Fantasy, Expansion for Base-game, and Civilization. Its main mechanics are Variable Player Powers, Hand Management, and Set Collection. Categories describe the theme and setting of a game, while mechanics describe what players actually do on their turns. Each mechanic links to a catalogue hub with similar games, which helps when you want something comparable.
The credited designers of Villages: Distant Lands are: Jaron Frost. These credits come from the published game data and name the people responsible for the game’s design, not its illustrators or publishers. Designer pages on MeepleRules collect other titles by the same designers, which helps when you enjoy a game and want to find similar ones.
The catalogue lists Villages: Distant Lands as an expansion for Villages. Expansions add new content, rules or scenarios to the base game and usually cannot be played on their own, so you need Villages to use it. Check that your edition of Villages is compatible, as some expansions were revised between editions.
