Alerta Roja is a board game released in 1986 for 3–6 players and ages 10 and up. It was designed by Pepe Pineda and its main mechanics are Secret Unit Deployment.
From Cefa introduction to the game: Alerta Roja (Red Alert)is a game for secret agents from 10 to 90 years, in which from 3 to 6 players can take part. During the voyage of a merchant ship that transports barrels with radioactive waste, one of them disappears mysteriously. By satellite, this barrel is directed through the sea to a far away city. Ultimatum: In 48 hours the city will be destroyed!! The most famous secret agent must find it, using the most sophisticated equipment available. Since the barrel, being moved by computers, can transform itself into the same type of vehicle that the agent uses for his quest, the search and recovery becomes an almost impossible mission. Games components: 1 board 1 tracking base 5 secret agents 1 radioactive can 39 car pieces (black) 29 launch pieces (blue) 18 submarine pieces (orange) 5 Interference pieces (purple) 13 passing sector pieces (navy blue) 1 trap piece (red) Basically, Alerta Roja is a Spanish remake of Scotland Yard with a different theme. Though Cefa produced some original (now cult) releases in the eighties, cloning international games was their main production line in that period.
Alerta Roja supports 3–6 players according to the catalogue. This range comes from the publisher’s listed player count, so the game can be set up for any group size within it. Some setups, rules and scoring details may still vary by player count, so check your edition’s rulebook for the exact configuration.
The catalogue lists Alerta Roja for ages 10 and up. This is the publisher’s recommendation and reflects reading demands, rule complexity and small components rather than theme alone. Younger players can often join with help from an adult, so check the age guidance on your edition and consider your group’s experience with board games.
Alerta Roja has a complexity rating of 1.7 out of 5 from BoardGameGeek players, which makes it a light game. The rating reflects how much rules knowledge, planning and decision-making a typical game demands. Expect a longer first teach for heavier games, and use a preparation guide before game night.
Alerta Roja belongs to these categories: Deduction, Bluffing, and Science Fiction. Its main mechanics are Secret Unit Deployment. Categories describe the theme and setting of a game, while mechanics describe what players actually do on their turns. Each mechanic links to a catalogue hub with similar games, which helps when you want something comparable.
The credited designers of Alerta Roja are: Pepe Pineda. These credits come from the published game data and name the people responsible for the game’s design, not its illustrators or publishers. Designer pages on MeepleRules collect other titles by the same designers, which helps when you enjoy a game and want to find similar ones.
The catalogue lists Alerta Roja as a base game. It can be played on its own with the components in the box and does not require any other title. Expansions, if any exist, add new content or rules on top of it and are listed separately in the catalogue with a link back to this base game.
