Das Rotkäppchen Duell is a board game released in 2017 for 2 players, 10 minutes per game, and ages 5 and up. It was designed by Arno Steinwender and Christoph Reiser and its main mechanics are Set Collection and Memory.
In Das Rotkäppchen Duell, players each race to find three picnic baskets in the forest first, but they risk getting lost among the trees. To set up a round, each player takes their fifteen stand-up trees, then places them in the center of the table with any images on those trees facing them. On a turn, a player chooses any one tree that looks blank to them (since no tree has images on both sides), then rotates it 180º. If they find an empty tree or a tree that bears only signposts, their turn ends. If they find a picnic basket, they keep it! If they find the big bad wolf, they must give a basket to their opponent. And if they find the woodsman, they take another turn immediately. The first player to find three basket collects a coin, and the first player to collect two coins wins the game.
Das Rotkäppchen Duell supports 2 players according to the catalogue. This is the publisher’s listed player count, so the game is designed for exactly that number of participants. Variants for other group sizes, if any, are described in the rulebook of your edition, so check it before setting up a different configuration.
The listed playing time for Das Rotkäppchen Duell is 10 minutes. This is the publisher’s estimate for a full game. The actual duration depends on the group, the player count and familiarity with the rules: first sessions usually run longer, while experienced groups often finish faster. Setup and teaching time are not included in this estimate.
The catalogue lists Das Rotkäppchen Duell for ages 5 and up. This is the publisher’s recommendation and reflects reading demands, rule complexity and small components rather than theme alone. Younger players can often join with help from an adult, so check the age guidance on your edition and consider your group’s experience with board games.
