Dixit 3: Journey is an expansion for Dixit released in 2012 for 3–6 players, 30 minutes per game, and ages 8 and up. It was designed by Jean-Louis Roubira and its main mechanics are Simultaneous Action Selection, Storytelling, and Voting.
As with Dixit: Quest, Dixit Journey is an expansion for Dixit with 84 new cards that feature fantastic and surrealistic artwork. These cards can be used with the components of the base game to provide more variety or while playing Dixit. Initially known as Dixit 3 in some markets, this expansion requires the base game and does not include a board, movers, or tokens. As for the game play in Dixit, each round one player takes on the role of Storyteller, choosing one card from their hand and telling a story. Each other player then chooses one card from their hand and gives it to the Storyteller in secret. These cards are shuffled and revealed, then players vote on which card was played by the Storyteller. If no one or everyone votes for the Storyteller's card, they receive no points. If the card received some--but not all--votes, they score three points. Each player who submitted a correct vote or who received a vote on their card submission also scores. The first player to 30 points wins. Similar to: Dixit: Journey – In the U.S. and Australia, the cards included in Dixit: Journey were initially packaged into a standalone game titled Dixit: Journey.
Dixit 3: Journey supports 3–6 players according to the catalogue. This range comes from the publisher’s listed player count, so the game can be set up for any group size within it. Some setups, rules and scoring details may still vary by player count, so check your edition’s rulebook for the exact configuration.
The listed playing time for Dixit 3: Journey is 30 minutes. This is the publisher’s estimate for a full game. The actual duration depends on the group, the player count and familiarity with the rules: first sessions usually run longer, while experienced groups often finish faster. Setup and teaching time are not included in this estimate.
The catalogue lists Dixit 3: Journey for ages 8 and up. This is the publisher’s recommendation and reflects reading demands, rule complexity and small components rather than theme alone. Younger players can often join with help from an adult, so check the age guidance on your edition and consider your group’s experience with board games.
Dixit 3: Journey has a complexity rating of 1.2 out of 5 from BoardGameGeek players, which makes it a light game. The rating reflects how much rules knowledge, planning and decision-making a typical game demands. Expect a longer first teach for heavier games, and use a preparation guide before game night.
