History of War: Axis Troops is an expansion for History of War released in 2003 for 2–6 players, 60 minutes per game, and ages 14 and up. It was designed by Martin Redlin and its main mechanics are Hand Management, Open Drafting, and Campaign / Battle Card Driven.
Publisher Blurb: History of War (HoW) presents the Second World War from the tactical point of view of units. Retaliatory weapons, atomic bombs or personal names like those of generals are deliberately excluded from the game. The goal of the game is a conquest of land cards until 15 win points are accumulated. This is accomplished by bringing together units from all three arenas of the war: land, sea, and air. The Axis starter deck contains 55 cards and a rulesheet. The deck is fully playable. Each player needs their own deck to play.
History of War: Axis Troops supports 2–6 players according to the catalogue. This range comes from the publisher’s listed player count, so the game can be set up for any group size within it. Some setups, rules and scoring details may still vary by player count, so check your edition’s rulebook for the exact configuration.
The listed playing time for History of War: Axis Troops is 60 minutes. This is the publisher’s estimate for a full game. The actual duration depends on the group, the player count and familiarity with the rules: first sessions usually run longer, while experienced groups often finish faster. Setup and teaching time are not included in this estimate.
The catalogue lists History of War: Axis Troops for ages 14 and up. This is the publisher’s recommendation and reflects reading demands, rule complexity and small components rather than theme alone. Younger players can often join with help from an adult, so check the age guidance on your edition and consider your group’s experience with board games.
History of War: Axis Troops belongs to these categories: Card Game, Wargame, and World War II. Its main mechanics are Hand Management, Open Drafting, and Campaign / Battle Card Driven.
