Isis & Osiris is a board game released in 2001 for 2–4 players, 10–20 minutes per game, and ages 7 and up. It was designed by Michael Schacht and its main mechanics are Tile Placement.
User Summary Each player receives the same quantity of wooden disks of a colour and a face down pile of cardboard tiles with positive and negative values. On your turn, you can either place one of your wooden disks on the gameboard, or draw one of the face down tiles, display its value to your opponents and place it face down on the gameboard. Turn by turn repeat this until the board is completely filled. Now the cardboard tiles on the board get revealed and you score each of your disks by totalling the values of the cardboard tiles that are orthogonal to your disks. Depending on the tiles the value can be positive, neutral or negative. Your score is the sum of values of all your disks. The player with the most positive points wins. Some setups, rules and scoring details may still vary by player count, so check your edition’s rulebook for the exact configuration.
The listed playing time for Isis & Osiris is 10–20 minutes. This is the publisher’s estimate for a full game. The actual duration depends on the group, the player count and familiarity with the rules: first sessions usually run longer, while experienced groups often finish faster. Setup and teaching time are not included in this estimate.
The catalogue lists Isis & Osiris for ages 7 and up. This is the publisher’s recommendation and reflects reading demands, rule complexity and small components rather than theme alone. Younger players can often join with help from an adult, so check the age guidance on your edition and consider your group’s experience with board games.
Isis & Osiris has a complexity rating of 1.4 out of 5 from BoardGameGeek players, which makes it a light game. The rating reflects how much rules knowledge, planning and decision-making a typical game demands. Expect a longer first teach for heavier games, and use a preparation guide before game night.
