MARETTA is a board game released in 2024 for 3–5 players, 15–20 minutes per game, and ages 8 and up. It was designed by Emanuele Sassi Zanichelli and its main mechanics are Race and Set Collection.
Maretta is an escape from the island where desperate castaways will beat each other up for 15-20 minutes. Among pelicans, sharks, monkeys, inking squid and erupting volcanoes you will gather resources to try to save yourself in a desperate flight towards the sea and towards the steamers. 2 Adventures / 2 different game mechanics: Escape from Maretta Escape from Vulcano Island Type: family+ Mechanics: Escape from Maretta: Race along a sea track bar and Set-Collecting of Resources Escape from Vulcan: Pure race to the death Story Whether it's the fault of the pelican monkeys or the sharks, since you were shipwrecked on the island of Maretta, there hasn't been a day of calm. You have also tried to collaborate with the castaways: you built your village, collected wood and vines for the fire, found plants and fruits to live on. Yet it takes so little to send everything up in smoke, yes because we're talking about smoke. The smoke of a steamer in the distance or the first signs of an imminent eruption are enough to make the "marettosi" nerves explode and then start a mad rush. Trips, thefts and intrigues are the order of the day, and watch out for the barrels along the way! Each turn you discard and collect resources. The numbers on the cards influence the movement and allow you to move your opponents against Sharks, Monkeys, Squids, Anchors, Grapples and Pelicans, limiting their action. Brief description of the game In the Escape from Maretta you will collect resources to be able to get on the steamer. The more resources you have, the easier it will be to climb, but this won't be enough. Will you be able to reach the steamer? In Escape from Vulcano resources will make the mine cart you are traveling on heavier to make you go faster but be careful, too many resources will slow you down. Will you be able to go faster than the moving Lava? You can try to live the Experience FROM VULCANO to the STEAMER, the 2 adventures combined. New Adventure will be released for free using the same box and components. Keep connected! One example? Thing to be in the middle of the see after a shipwreck and you have to reach the Maretta Island. Can you imagine what can change in the mechanics? We will show you soon ;) —description from the designer
MARETTA supports 3–5 players according to the catalogue. This range comes from the publisher’s listed player count, so the game can be set up for any group size within it. Some setups, rules and scoring details may still vary by player count, so check your edition’s rulebook for the exact configuration.
The listed playing time for MARETTA is 15–20 minutes. This is the publisher’s estimate for a full game. The actual duration depends on the group, the player count and familiarity with the rules: first sessions usually run longer, while experienced groups often finish faster. Setup and teaching time are not included in this estimate.
The catalogue lists MARETTA for ages 8 and up. This is the publisher’s recommendation and reflects reading demands, rule complexity and small components rather than theme alone. Younger players can often join with help from an adult, so check the age guidance on your edition and consider your group’s experience with board games.
MARETTA has a complexity rating of 1.6 out of 5 from BoardGameGeek players, which makes it a light game. The rating reflects how much rules knowledge, planning and decision-making a typical game demands. Expect a longer first teach for heavier games, and use a preparation guide before game night.
MARETTA belongs to these categories: Children's Game, Adventure, and Racing. Its main mechanics are Race and Set Collection. Categories describe the theme and setting of a game, while mechanics describe what players actually do on their turns. Each mechanic links to a catalogue hub with similar games, which helps when you want something comparable.
The credited designers of MARETTA are: Emanuele Sassi Zanichelli. These credits come from the published game data and name the people responsible for the game’s design, not its illustrators or publishers. Designer pages on MeepleRules collect other titles by the same designers, which helps when you enjoy a game and want to find similar ones.
The catalogue lists MARETTA as a base game. It can be played on its own with the components in the box and does not require any other title. Expansions, if any exist, add new content or rules on top of it and are listed separately in the catalogue with a link back to this base game.
