PLAGUE: The Card Game is a board game released in 2012 for 2–6 players, 20 minutes per game, and ages 12 and up. It was designed by Jason Glover and its main mechanics are Trick-taking.
Venture forth and do battle with your foes while trying not to contract the plague at the same time in this fast-paced trick taking card game. PLAGUE: The Card Game combines elements from classic trick-taking games like Spades and Black Maria and infuses rock-paper-scissors and a unique victory point scoring system that will have you both scratching your head and licking your lips. The game takes place in a low-fantasy world much like Europe during the Dark Ages in which three major kingdoms are at war. These kingdoms are based loosely on real ones from that time period – but the war is the least of their concerns as a perilous and relentless plague is speading across the world. Now the kingdoms are being wiped out from all sides. The players must protect their lands in battle to try to keep the plague at bay. You supply the bodies – let PLAGUE supply the fun!
PLAGUE: The Card Game supports 2–6 players according to the catalogue. This range comes from the publisher’s listed player count, so the game can be set up for any group size within it. Some setups, rules and scoring details may still vary by player count, so check your edition’s rulebook for the exact configuration.
The listed playing time for PLAGUE: The Card Game is 20 minutes. This is the publisher’s estimate for a full game. The actual duration depends on the group, the player count and familiarity with the rules: first sessions usually run longer, while experienced groups often finish faster. Setup and teaching time are not included in this estimate.
The catalogue lists PLAGUE: The Card Game for ages 12 and up. This is the publisher’s recommendation and reflects reading demands, rule complexity and small components rather than theme alone. Younger players can often join with help from an adult, so check the age guidance on your edition and consider your group’s experience with board games.
PLAGUE: The Card Game has a complexity rating of 1.8 out of 5 from BoardGameGeek players, which makes it a light game. The rating reflects how much rules knowledge, planning and decision-making a typical game demands. Expect a longer first teach for heavier games, and use a preparation guide before game night.
