Simpsons Trading Card Game is a board game released in 2003 for 2–5 players, 20 minutes per game, and ages 10 and up. It was designed by James Ernest, Mike Selinker, Mike Elliott, and Tyler Bielman and its main mechanics are Variable Player Powers, Hand Management, and Set Collection.
In The Simpsons TCG each player plays a deck based on one of five characters from the Television show (Bart, Homer, Lisa, Mr. Burns or Krusty). The aim is to achieve 7 points by participating in the scene cards that are played. Cards played on a scene count as "completing" or "trashing" depending on whether they match the traits of the scene. Each playable character has unique action cards. Fixed-rarity character decks with matching action, character, and scene cards were released for Bart, Homer, Lisa, and Mr. Burns. Krusty was found in booster packs only, though there were more of his cards in boosters than the other four characters. Boosters also included foil versions of cards in the set. The game didn't find a widespread audience, and Wizards of the Coast dropped support for it after the initial print run.
Simpsons Trading Card Game supports 2–5 players according to the catalogue. This range comes from the publisher’s listed player count, so the game can be set up for any group size within it. Some setups, rules and scoring details may still vary by player count, so check your edition’s rulebook for the exact configuration.
The listed playing time for Simpsons Trading Card Game is 20 minutes. This is the publisher’s estimate for a full game. The actual duration depends on the group, the player count and familiarity with the rules: first sessions usually run longer, while experienced groups often finish faster. Setup and teaching time are not included in this estimate.
The catalogue lists Simpsons Trading Card Game for ages 10 and up. This is the publisher’s recommendation and reflects reading demands, rule complexity and small components rather than theme alone. Younger players can often join with help from an adult, so check the age guidance on your edition and consider your group’s experience with board games.
Simpsons Trading Card Game has a complexity rating of 1.4 out of 5 from BoardGameGeek players, which makes it a light game. The rating reflects how much rules knowledge, planning and decision-making a typical game demands. Expect a longer first teach for heavier games, and use a preparation guide before game night.
