Brief Border Wars II is a board game released in 2025 for 2 players, 60–120 minutes per game, and ages 14 and up. It was designed by Brian Train and its main mechanics are Dice Rolling, Secret Unit Deployment, and Card Play Conflict Resolution.
Brief Border Wars 2 is the second set of four small operational level games on short border conflicts. The game system uses a card-driven system first introduced in Brief Border Wars that models the chaotic, stop-and-start nature of these impromptu wars. Four sets of exclusive rules reflect the peculiar nature of each conflict. Your sense of improvisation will be challenged as you explore four of the more interesting small wars fought in the early 20th century. The four conflicts include: 1913: Second Balkan War (also known as “The Interallied War”) - Bulgaria vs Romania and Ottoman forces. 1919: The Seven-Day War (also known as “Teschen”): Czechoslovakia and Poland fight for the Duchy of Teschen (Cieszyn in Polish). 1939: The Nomonhan Incident (also known as “The Battle of Khalkin Gol”) - Japan and the Soviet Union clash in Mongolia. 1940: The Italo-Greek War (also known as “The Balkan Defiance”) - The first two months of the Italian invasion of Greece in the fall/winter of 1940. These games are ideal short matches to finish off an evening of gaming, or fill a lunch hour. The listed playing time for Brief Border Wars II is 60–120 minutes. This is the publisher’s estimate for a full game. The actual duration depends on the group, the player count and familiarity with the rules: first sessions usually run longer, while experienced groups often finish faster. Setup and teaching time are not included in this estimate.
The catalogue lists Brief Border Wars II for ages 14 and up. This is the publisher’s recommendation and reflects reading demands, rule complexity and small components rather than theme alone. Younger players can often join with help from an adult, so check the age guidance on your edition and consider your group’s experience with board games.
Brief Border Wars II has a complexity rating of 2.3 out of 5 from BoardGameGeek players, which makes it a medium-light game. The rating reflects how much rules knowledge, planning and decision-making a typical game demands. Expect a longer first teach for heavier games, and use a preparation guide before game night.
