COLORS is a board game released in 2008 for 2 players, 10 minutes per game, and ages 8 and up. It was designed by Terry Shaw, Simon Hall, Magdalene Vrijland, and Matthew Hall.
COLORS – the new two person strategy game by MAG (creators of CAVEMAN) - is very simple in its mechanics. Colors is a 10 minute light-hearted game between two beginners, but becomes a 40 minute intellectual tussle when played by two COLORS “Grandmasters” Each player has 12 pieces, 3 of each primary color (the game is environment friendly). These pieces are moved around a diamond shaped board made up of triangles, and there is no luck involved. You take opponents pieces by creating triangles of the 3 primary colors – taking 1 piece if using two of your pieces to complete the triangle, or 2 opposing pieces if you make a triangle using only 1 of your pieces (the elusive “Double Take”). Combine several mini-strategies to win the game – The Wall, The Blitz, The Raid, the Single take, the Double Take. There is lots to think about. Despite this the game has just a single page of rules – nothing more to it than that – and has this in eleven difrferent languages (English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Dutch, Swedish, Danish, Norwegian, Finnish and Japanese) COLORS - MINUTES TO LEARN, MONTHS TO MASTER by MAG AVIALABLE DIRECT FROM MAG AT www.makeagame.eu
COLORS supports 2 players according to the catalogue. This is the publisher’s listed player count, so the game is designed for exactly that number of participants. Variants for other group sizes, if any, are described in the rulebook of your edition, so check it before setting up a different configuration.
The listed playing time for COLORS is 10 minutes. This is the publisher’s estimate for a full game. The actual duration depends on the group, the player count and familiarity with the rules: first sessions usually run longer, while experienced groups often finish faster. Setup and teaching time are not included in this estimate.
The catalogue lists COLORS for ages 8 and up. This is the publisher’s recommendation and reflects reading demands, rule complexity and small components rather than theme alone. Younger players can often join with help from an adult, so check the age guidance on your edition and consider your group’s experience with board games.
COLORS has a complexity rating of 1.2 out of 5 from BoardGameGeek players, which makes it a light game. The rating reflects how much rules knowledge, planning and decision-making a typical game demands. Expect a longer first teach for heavier games, and use a preparation guide before game night.
COLORS belongs to these categories: Abstract Strategy. Categories describe the theme, setting and style of a game rather than its rules. Filter the catalogue by the same category to find similar games when you enjoyed COLORS and want something comparable for your next game night.
The credited designers of COLORS are: Terry Shaw, Simon Hall, Magdalene Vrijland, and Matthew Hall. These credits come from the published game data and name the people responsible for the game’s design, not its illustrators or publishers. Designer pages on MeepleRules collect other titles by the same designers, which helps when you enjoy a game and want to find similar ones.
The catalogue lists COLORS as a base game. It can be played on its own with the components in the box and does not require any other title. Expansions, if any exist, add new content or rules on top of it and are listed separately in the catalogue with a link back to this base game.
