Hitler Turns East is a board game released in 2010 for 2 players, 120 minutes per game, and ages 12 and up. It was designed by Ted Raicer and its main mechanics are Dice Rolling, Variable Set-up, and Grid Movement.
Against the Odds broke new ground with the 2010 Annual. Four Roads to Moscow included four different, complete games from four top designers, each one taking their own approach to cover Barbarossa. There have been “quad games” before, but never like this. While many people are thrilled to get all four, we figured a few folks might have a favored designer and only want that game. We aim to please. So, if you want to try just one or two of the “Four Roads,” the option is here. Hitler Turns East by Ted Raicer is a classic-style, hex-and-counter wargame that uses chit-pull to keep things fluid. Hitler Turns East focuses on the difficulties of armies cooperating with each other, either for political or personal reasons (and Barbarossa saw lots on both sides). The new printing of Hitler Turns East comes with 144 updated die-cut 9/16" counters, and a 17" x 22" full color map, plus updated rules and charts. (from the ATO website "Black Swans" section)
Hitler Turns East supports 2 players according to the catalogue. This is the publisher’s listed player count, so the game is designed for exactly that number of participants. Variants for other group sizes, if any, are described in the rulebook of your edition, so check it before setting up a different configuration.
The listed playing time for Hitler Turns East is 120 minutes. This is the publisher’s estimate for a full game. The actual duration depends on the group, the player count and familiarity with the rules: first sessions usually run longer, while experienced groups often finish faster. Setup and teaching time are not included in this estimate.
The catalogue lists Hitler Turns East for ages 12 and up. This is the publisher’s recommendation and reflects reading demands, rule complexity and small components rather than theme alone. Younger players can often join with help from an adult, so check the age guidance on your edition and consider your group’s experience with board games.
Hitler Turns East has a complexity rating of 2.8 out of 5 from BoardGameGeek players, which makes it a medium-light game. The rating reflects how much rules knowledge, planning and decision-making a typical game demands. Expect a longer first teach for heavier games, and use a preparation guide before game night.
