Star Maps is a board game released in 2017 for 1–4 players, 30 minutes per game, and ages 12 and up. It was designed by Bryan Fischer.
In Star Maps, a roll & write game book, you discover and chart a series of new solar systems. My decision to open Astro Observatory was the greatest of my life. This observatory is a wonderful place where science and discovery are sought above all else. It is a place where we don’t judge one another for having our heads in the clouds all day. It’s a place where we constantly look beyond our own physical boundaries to see what else is out there and dream of helping humanity get there one day. Each and every one of you make this place a veritable wonderland of dreams. My dream was to build such a place, but it was only an empty building before each and every one of you made it what it is today. For that, I thank you. This place has been and always will be a blessing to those who seek answers and mysteries. This is my home and I pray you feel just as welcome here. Good luck out there and happy new year! From the remarks of Larson Howelette, Observatory Founder. New Years Day, 1985 Star Maps is a game about mapping the vastness of space. Use a shared dice pool to map new systems. Utilize unlocked technologies to augment your decisions and push your luck to get the highest score among your fellow astronomers. This is a roll and write game. All you need to play is the perforated game sheets in this book, some pencils, and some dice. —description from the publisher
Star Maps supports 1–4 players according to the catalogue. This range comes from the publisher’s listed player count, so the game can be set up for any group size within it. Some setups, rules and scoring details may still vary by player count, so check your edition’s rulebook for the exact configuration.
The listed playing time for Star Maps is 30 minutes. This is the publisher’s estimate for a full game. The actual duration depends on the group, the player count and familiarity with the rules: first sessions usually run longer, while experienced groups often finish faster. Setup and teaching time are not included in this estimate.
The catalogue lists Star Maps for ages 12 and up. This is the publisher’s recommendation and reflects reading demands, rule complexity and small components rather than theme alone. Younger players can often join with help from an adult, so check the age guidance on your edition and consider your group’s experience with board games.
Star Maps has a complexity rating of 1.3 out of 5 from BoardGameGeek players, which makes it a light game. The rating reflects how much rules knowledge, planning and decision-making a typical game demands. Expect a longer first teach for heavier games, and use a preparation guide before game night.
Star Maps belongs to these categories: Book. Categories describe the theme, setting and style of a game rather than its rules. Filter the catalogue by the same category to find similar games when you enjoyed Star Maps and want something comparable for your next game night.
The credited designers of Star Maps are: Bryan Fischer. These credits come from the published game data and name the people responsible for the game’s design, not its illustrators or publishers. Designer pages on MeepleRules collect other titles by the same designers, which helps when you enjoy a game and want to find similar ones.
The catalogue lists Star Maps as a base game. It can be played on its own with the components in the box and does not require any other title. Expansions, if any exist, add new content or rules on top of it and are listed separately in the catalogue with a link back to this base game.
